Cake Decor product review part 2


I love trying out new products so when Cake Decor recently sent me a bumper box of baking goodies to play with I was thrilled!


My boys and I had lots of fun with the choco writers – you simply pop the tube in a jug of hot water for a couple of minutes, snip off the end and get creative! My boys had a great time creating all kinds of different shapes and writing. They are very easy to use and I found them a lot less hassle than melting your own chocolate and making your own piping bag with parchment.  You will find Choco writers in Lakeland or you can order them online.

We also made these delicious and very easy chocolate shortbread biscuits. They are perfect for making with little ones.

Choccy Melts
from “Cookie Magic” by Kate Shirazi

250g soft butter
200g plain flour
100g cornflour
100g icing sugar
50g cocoa powder

Preheat oven to 180C

In a large bowl, beat the butter until very soft, then add the rest of the ingredients. Using your hands, mix together to make a dough. Roll little balls of the dough between your hands, then place on the lined baking tray. Bake for 10-12 minutes. The biscuits will still be slightly soft in the middle so leave them on the tray for 5 minutes. Place on a wire rack and leave to cool before decorating.


I also made Chetna’s coffee, cardamom and pistachio (although I used walnuts!) swiss roll from the first episode of The Great British Bake off (so delighted it’s back on our screens!) I used the chocolate creations made by my boys to decorate it. You’ll find the recipe for the swiss roll on the BBC website.
