I bought a lot of baking related books in 2012. My collection had been growing so large lately that I felt I couldn’t possibly justify asking for more for Christmas, partly due to the fact that I’m running out of room to store new books! Our bookshelves are well and truly fit to burst.
I was very unusually strict with myself and limited myself to one…just one!! cookbook on my Christmas wish list rather than the usual ten! The book I chose was Annie Bell’s “Baking Bible”. I have collected a few of Annie Bell’s books over the years, such as gorgeous cakes, Birthday cakes for kids and Christmas cupcakes. I’ve always had really good results from Annie’s books. Annie is a food writer who began her career as a chef before moving on to become a food writer for Vogue magazine. She now writes for numerous publications including The Independent, You magazine, Sainsburys magazine and many more.
I love this book. It has so many recipes I can’t wait to try, like milk choc log cabin log (decorated with Flake bars!), orange chiffon cake, chocolate truffle macadamia bars (droool) & black forest cookies. There are also classics such as old fashioned sticky ginger loaf, apple pie, carrot cake & flapjacks. I’ve made the salted caramel flapjacks (sorry, no picture) and they were perfect.
I was really delighted with this Victoria sponge. I’ve never had a sponge rise so high before! The texture was gorgeous, as light as a feather.
This chocolate cake was gorgeous – so moist and light! The chocolate & golden syrup topping really made it special.
I made these chocolate muffins this morning and they are absolutely divine. A light chocolate sponge, dotted with raspberries that burst in your mouth with a buttery crunchy chocolate crumble topping. I think I’ve found my perfect muffin.
