Save yourself some money by making this homemade pumpkin pie spice – the cosy, warming flavours of Autumn in a jar!
September marks the beginning of pumpkin season and I couldn’t be happier about it. I LOVE pumpkin. Some people believe the pumpkin spice trend has gotten a little out of hand over the past couple of years, but I am not one of those people.
Give me ALL the pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin spice oreos and pumpkin spice quaker oats. I can’t get enough of it.
how to make homemade pumpkin spice
I came across an American recipe recently that called for pumpkin pie spice. Since you can’t buy pumpkin pie spice in UK supermarkets, I thought I would do a quick google search to see if I could order some online.
My research showed me that it was going to set me back at least a fiver for one teeny little pot that would probably last about 5 minutes. Errr I don’t think so, not for this frugal Scottish lass. I quickly scanned the list of ingredients.
Cinnamon
Ginger
Nutmeg
Cloves
Allspice
Hang on, I have all these ingredients in my cupboard. I could make it myself and save myself some money!
Making your own spice mix couldn’t be simpler. It’s just a case of mixing the spices together. Hardly any work at all!
For the best tasting pumpkin spice mix, do make sure your spices are as fresh as possible. I wouldn’t recommend using any spices that have been sitting at the back of your cupboard for years!

It’s definitely a good idea to make your own spice mixes when you can! I love all the sweet bakes with pumpkin in that are around at the moment and so will have to whip some of this up!
Thanks Corina, I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner! I’ve made 3 batches in the last 2 weeks ?
