Want to know how to make a perfect Air Fryer baked potato with crispy skin and a fluffy middle? You’ve come to the right place! Once you’ve tried it, you’ll never make baked potatoes in the oven again….

If you love a baked potato and have never tried making it in an air fryer, you should give it a try. Ever since I discovered that you can make perfect jacket potatoes this way, my oven has gone into retirement. For baked potatoes, at least!
why you will love this air fryer baked potato recipe
- Saves energy – cooking a baked potato in an air fryer is much cheaper than using an oven.
- Quicker – It can take up to two hours to cook a baked potato in an oven. Using an air fryer cuts the time in half!
- Perfectly cooked potato – The results speak for themselves. Using the air fryer will give you a perfect potato with a fluffy middle and super crispy skin!
- perfect in the warmer months – When it’s hot outside, the last thing you want to do is have your oven on for hours! That’s when the air fryer comes in very useful.

how long does it take to cook a baked potato in the air fryer?
It all depends on the size of your potato! I find a potato weighing approximately 250g takes 40-50 minutes to fully cook in an air fryer.
what temperature?
After a little bit of testing, I discovered the following:
- Air frying at 180: Took one hour to get a soft, fluffy interior. The skin didn’t really crisp up much.
- Air frying at 200C: gives you a perfectly cooked potato with that super crispy skin.

do i have to pierce a potato before air frying?
Yes, you need to pierce the potato several times before air frying. This will allow the steam to escape from the potatoes while they cook.

can i use the microwave to speed up the process?
If you’re in a hurry, you can certainly use the microwave to give the potato a quickfire blast of heat. Cook the potato on high for 6-8 minutes, then drizzle it with a little oil and season with salt and pepper. Cook in the air fryer for 20-25 minutes or until the potato feels soft and the skin is super crisp.
CAN AIR FRYER JACKET POTATOES BE REHEATED?
Yes – jacket potatoes reheat really well, so they can be made in advance. Once the cooked potatoes are completely cold, place in the fridge for a maximum of two days. Reheat in the air fryer at 190C for 10-15 minutes.

Air Fryer Baked Potato
Love baked potatoes but struggle to get that super crispy skin and fluffy middle? Try using an air fryer! My air fryer baked potato recipe will give you perfect results in less than one hour.
Ingredients
- One baking potato (around 250g in weight)
- 1/2 tablespoon vegetable, sunflower or light olive oil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 200C.
- Wash the potato, then pat dry with paper towels. Transfer the potato to a board or plate. Prick the potato all over with a fork. Drizzle over the oil, rubbing it in with your hands so the potato is evenly coated. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Place the potato in the air fryer basket. Cook for 45-50 minutes or until the potato is soft in the middle and crispy on the outside. Insert a sharp knife in the middle of the potato - if it goes in easily and doesn't feel hard at all, it's ready. Give the potato a gentle squeeze - it should yield to your touch and feel nice and soft.
- Split the potato open and season with salt and pepper. Add a knob of butter and toppings of your choice.
Notes
To speed up the cooking process, cook the potato in the microwave on high for 6-8 minutes, then air fry for 20-25 minutes.
Please remember that times will vary depending on the model of your air fryer - you might need to experiment slightly with timings/temperature to achieve perfection!
